Mahama Ayariga Bares Teeth At Public Universities – Bring Your Fees To Parliament For Approval

The honorable member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Chairman of The Subsidiary Legislation Committee of Parliament has called on public Universities to submit their proposed fee charges to parliament for approval before implementing them.
Honorable Ayariga who threatened legal action if this call is not heeded to also revealed that it is a requirement of the law’s of Ghana for all public Universities to submit their proposed fees to parliament for approval before going ahead to charge students but haven’t done so since 1992.
He has since written a 2 paged letter as reported by myjoyonline, to the Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwasi Yankah on the matter and urged him on to deal with it.
The former minister of Information, Science and Technology also revealed that apart from Wa Polytechnic, all other Universities are in breach of this law.
He also bemoaned the practice of fee paying and non- fee paying (regular students) and labeled it as unconstitutional, discriminatory and reprehensible and wants it to end in the immediate.
