KNUST SHS Wins Debate

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) which emerged winners of this year’s Inter-School Debate competition organised on Ghana’s Independence Anniversary have presented their award to the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Divine Ahadzie, Board Chairman of the School and the leader of the delegation explained that the students of KNUST SHS participated in the debate organised by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service with help from the presidency and emerged winners. He remarked that the students won convincingly on all the score cards of the judges.

Joyce Owusu-Ansah, headmistress of KNUST SHS, stated that the school was presented with a 42-inch flat screen television, four laptops, one for each student who participated in the debate, an amount of one thousand five hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢1500) to be shared among the debaters and five hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢500) for the teachers (coaches). She presented the students and their coaches to the Vice-Chancellor and commended them for their hard work.

Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, expressed his profound gratitude to the teachers for their hard work in supporting the students to win such a prize. He charged the students to strive to achieve greater laurels as this prize was to give them hope and assurance of future successes. He encouraged the final year students to work extra hard so as to attain good grades in the upcoming WASSCE examinations.

Professor Obiri-Danso made a personal donation of four hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢400) that is one hundred Ghana cedis to each of the debaters for the honour brought to the University.

Reverend Professor Charles Ansah, Pro-Vice Chancellor, urged the students to forget about this success and focus on striving to achieve more future prizes for the school.

KNUST SHS Debate

The students who represented the KNUST SHS in the debating competition were, Aaron Owusu Afriyie, Vannessa Agyeman, Ephraim Robert and Agnes Pokuaa Sarfo. Mr. George Adu, Ms. Abena Darkoah and Mr. Noah Owusu were the teachers who coached the students to obtain the prize.

The topic for the debate was “Mobilising for Ghana’s Future: The Youth are Key Stakeholders in National Development.” KNUST SHS spoke against the motion and gained 612 points.
