DIPLOMA IN APPLIED COMPUTER SCIENCE
(GDACS)
The Diploma in Applied Computer Science programme is a two-year programme, which aims to equip graduates with strong and broad technical skills and knowledge to take on appropriate positions pertaining to the application of computer science upon graduation and grow into leadership positions or to pursue research or degree studies in the field.
By the end of the programme, graduates should be able to:
- Understand and contribute to the scientific, mathematical and theoretical foundations on which information technologies are built
- Explain and apply appropriate information technologies and employ appropriate methodologies to help an individual or organization achieve its goals
- Anticipate the changing direction of information technology and evaluate and communicate the implications of these changes to an individual or organisation.
- Live and work as contributing, well rounded, members of society.
Graduates will need this Diploma in Applied Computer Science knowledge and skills to make them employable in these times of constant technology change in society.
STUDENTS’ ADMISSION
Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission of Students
Applicants must meet any of the following minimum requirements:
SSSCE Holders:
- Six passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and
- At least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.
WASSCE Holders:
- Six passes (A1-D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and
- Must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.
- GCE ‘A’ Level: Aggregate 12 or better with a pass of D or better in Mathematics.
- Diplomas/Certificates from local and foreign institutions recognised by the National Accreditation Board
- Mature Students must be at least 25 years at the time of applying and must write a qualifying examination and score an average of 50%. They must also have relevant working experience plus credit passes in Mathematics and English.
- Certificate in Information and Communication Technology (CICT) from GIMPA with an average score of not less than 55%. They must equally satisfy the mature students’ entry requirements above for entering a tertiary institution.
