The SRC Week Celebration Just Gone By – Abysmally Dismal

Folks, the SRC Week Celebration of which about 40,000 Ghana Cedis as well as a host of sponsorship packages got invested in has failed woefully to live up to the expectations of Students.

As the parent body of all Students, one would have expected that they’d put together a program that will leave lingering memories on the people but because of ‘too knowism’, cronyism and their failure to listen, they’ve organized something that has really gone on to enforce their failure in the minds of well meaning students.

Apart from the abysmal nature with which the week celebration was publicized, the schedule for the celebration in itself was as dismal as the word itself. One week has seen probably close to half a 100,000 Ghana Cedis gone down drain in actual budgetary allocation and sponsorship packages.

First, the manner in which the event in itself was publicized was a blight on the whole SRC machinery particularly the Public Relations directorate. You’d bear me out that for every event, communication go on a long way to enhance the success of the celebration.

Indeed there were many students, many of them, who did not even know that the SRC Week Celebration had begun. There were no effective ways to publicize the celebration. This is for all students, unlike Hall weeks that are for a segmented group of people.

The apathy that greeted almost all their programs is a clear evidence to buttress whatever notions that this celebration was not publicized well.

Moreover, the program lineup, which should have courted attention to the program, I say was haphazardly put together. There was nothing different in there to wet the appetites of Students to fully participate in the events of the celebration.

Indeed, program lineups for some Hall weeks has been and is more attractive than what was put together by the SRC.

But when you say it you are tagged as a hater. What kind of amateurish thinking are those? If mere students, undergraduates feel that they are above criticisms then we really have a bleak future – if we will even allow these bunch to lead the country.

For those of us who have said, or maybe sworn to see to it that the right thing is done, we will, regardless of the dissatisfaction that we would court from them. Student leaders must know that they are not above reproach. It’s disgusting what and how they feel about themselves.

But when you have cheer leaders who will always cheer them on in the face of this gross ineptitude, tactlessness, gawkiness and inelegance, they’d feel they are doing something worthy of appreciation – none, at least not this week celebration. It’s nothing to write home about.

If I’m made judge, to rate this week celebration, I’d be very lenient, I’d give them something higher than they deserve. This week celebration to me, deserve nothing higher than 3.7 over 10. If it must be done, it must be done well!
