The Senior Staff Association of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)-SSAK have sworn in newly-elected executive members of the association.  Reverend Fr. Dr. Peter Addai Mensah, the Catholic Chaplain administered the oath of office and secrecy to the executives. He also prayed for them.

Mr. Elvis Kofi AgyapongIn his inaugural speech, Mr. Elvis Kofi Agyapong thanked members of the association for entrusting the leadership in his hands. He stated that it was the best time to lead the association as a lot of members had lost hope in the leadership of the association and he promised to restore that hope and confidence.

Mr. Agyapong promised to ensure accountability, transparency and the welfare of members. The new president assured members that he was going to invest part of the funds of the association and that he would make all financial transactions known to members.

He pledged to ensure a cordial relationship between executives and members and to make sacrifices for the betterment of the association. He also called for support and cooperation from all members.

Rev. Prof. Charles ANSAHReverend Professor Charles Ansah, speaking at the function, congratulated the old executives for their selfless leadership and the assiduousness with which they executed their duties. He extended his appreciation to the interim management committee for steering the affairs of the association until the successful hand-over to the new executives.

Rev. Prof. Ansah noted that unionism called for selflessness, service and humility.  He stated, “You must demonstrate to members that you have their welfare at heart, bearing in mind that the people elected you to serve them.” He pledged management’s support saying, “Management is solidly behind you and so feel free to contact us on any issues that affect senior staff.”

Rev. Prof. Ansah charged the new executives to work to improve the good image of the university. He lamented that some staff members did not perform their tasks as expected and that absenteeism and lateness were among the vices some members of the association were guilty of. He hoped the new executives would work to reduce such incidents.

There were solidarity messages from the University of Cape Coast branch of SSAK, the KNUST branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union.

The Executives are Elvis Kofi Agyapong President; George Ansong Vice- President; Grace Dari,Treasurer; James Annan, Secretary, Kwadwo Bediako Baryeh as Assistant Secretary/Publicity Officer and Gloria Odarkor Mills as Women’s Commissioner.
