A level 400 student of the University of Ghana fell to her death on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.
The deceased named Jennifer Nyarko, a Consumer Science student fell from her balcony at dawn at Akuafo Annex A room 407 after staying away from lectures for several days and was found by a student who was on her way to pray.
Her parents have attributed the demise of their daughter to a mental disorder she had suffered for the past five years.
She was confirmed dead at the Legon hospital.
A student at the University of Ghana who spoke to the Citi FM said: “As at now we don’t know what may have caused this. She is now in the hospital. We saw her lying down and bleeding from her head. Such cases involve investigations so we didn’t want to touch her. We could see that the head was broken. We are all waiting to hear from the doctor.“
The Legon District Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Emmanuel Ofori Anokye, according the Daily Graphic, said the police received distress phone calls about the incident around 5:00 a.m., and a team of policemen were dispatched to the scene.
The victim was taken to the Legon Hospital in the hospital’s ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Some of her colleagues on campus claim the victim had been suffering from bipolar disorder.
was found on the victim’s bed, and the police said the last caller was a female friend who confirmed to the police that miss Nyarko had called her to inform her pastor to pray for her that night since she was having an attack.
Mr William Nyarko, father of the victim also confirmed to the police that his daughter had been struggling with a mental disorder since 2012.
Mr Nyarko said he receive a call about the death of his daughter on Tuesday morning.
