The Dean of Students Affairs Professor Francis Nunoo has stated that the University management has not yet met to take a decision on the directive from the National Council for Tertiary Education ordering public universities to maintain the fees for last academic year pending the approval of the fees for the upcoming academic year.
Speaking to LegonConnect’s Kwaku Asante earlier this morning, Professor Nunoo said “…I’m not [part of] senior management and we have not met on this subject, and we have also seen it in the media, when we meet, we have a meeting next week and when we meet this issue may come up, so we’ll be properly informed, but I’ve not seen any formal communication [to this effect]”.
Meanwhile the Executive Secretary of Vice Chancellors Ghana, an association of all vice Chancellors in the country, Mr. Peter Kaba also speaking with Kwaku Asante has stated that since the National Council for Tertiary Education is their regulatory body, they will have to go by the directive but will come out with a statement at the appropriate time.
With this, many students will be left in limbo as to the next line of action with regards to the fees but from the going LegonConnect can authoritatively confirm that students will pay last academic year’s fees pending the approval of Parliament when it resumes from recess as the universities are likely to go by the directive issued by the National Council for Tertiary Education.
Students of Public universities have been agitating over what they call exorbitant fees and have called for its reduction whilst some have petitioned Parliament to activate its authority to vet and approve the fees before implementation.
