LOPA Legon, the group that filed a petition at the SRC court challenging the election of Daniel Otting Awuah as SRC President elect have withdrawn their election petition citing ”new facts” as the reasons for the decision.
Speaking to LegonConnect, the president of the group, Daniel Amewor stated that the ”Petition has been withdrawn this morning on the rise of new facts that may damage the case”.
He was however quick to point out that the decision to withdraw the petition was not as a result of some ”subjective” opinions that rose after the petition was filed and that in due time, an appropriate response will come officially from the body. The case was scheduled to be heard this evening at the Law Faculty until this latest information.
Daniel Otting Awuah won with 66.66% as against his closest contender’s 33.33% percent in the run-off after both candidates and some other 3 candidates failed to secure the constitutionally required 50%+1 forcing the presidential race into the second round even though Ms. Janet Maame Serwaa Arkorful and Ms. Ethel Donkor had been declared victors as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
