LOPA Challenges The Election Of Otting As SRC President In Court

A pressure group duly registered with the Dean of Student Affairs office by name Leadership, openness, Probity and Accountability have filed a petition at the SRC court challenging the election of Daniel Otting Awuah as president of the Student Representative Council.
The following is a part of the petition as presented to the judicial board and copied to the SRC Legal Advisor;
PETITION ON ELECTION HELD ON THE 27TH DAY OF APRIL, 2017.
The petition of the Leadership, Openness, Probity and Accountability Body, hereinafter refer to as LOPA, shows as follows;
1. That the petitioner invokes the jurisdiction of the judicial board of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council.
2. The petitioner, LOPA, is a registered body consisting of members who voted at the above elections.
3. That the election (run-off) was held on the 27th day of April, 2017 when Master Otting Awuah Daniel & Moses Acheampong and Master Sylvester Amoako & Kezia Deguenon were candidates and on the 27th day of April, 2017, the electoral commissioner provisionally declared Otting Awuah Daniel and Moses Acheampong as duly elected.
4. That results from various polling stations did not reflect the true number of electorates that voted in the stations.
5. That upon the request to test the election software before its uninstallation by the electoral commissioner to the software manager was refused.
6. That there was a calculated manipulation of software to outcome a scenario of two votes is to one vote for all total votes cast which is reflected in the percentage of votes from the provisional results.
7. That Article 31(1) of the SRC of the University of Ghana Constitution provides for the filing of petition within 48 hours after declaration of provisional results accordingly and that is from 27th of April, 2017 to the 29th of April, 2017.
Wherefore the petitioner prays as follows;
1. That it may be determined that the said President and Vice-President elect was not duly elected and that the election was void due to irregularities, illegalities and unfortunate incidents before, during and after the said elections.
2. That the time for elections be considered in future to make space for redress of any reasonably expected circumstances resulting from election processes.
3. That the petitioner may have such other relief(s) as this honourable court deems fit. DATED THIS 29TH DAY OF APRIL, 2017.
