She got a deserved mandate to serve as the General Secretary of the SRC for the 2016/2017 academic year after a hectic campaign and won decisively. Fast forward, with a few weeks to hand down, we bring to you highlights of some achievements under her watch as the Chief scribe of the Students’ Representative Council.
The exemplary leadership of the Secretary of the SRC, Aboraa Sika Marfo, who has conducted herself in a manner that has endeared her to the Students of the Premier University may have contributed to the successes she has chalked in office.

Among the many things that she has done as Secretary includes the SRC Secretarial Hub, the braille project, Secretaries Connect, An official SRC office line and also the Use of the Student mail to disseminate information. The above, I will detail in the ensuing paragraphs.
The SRC Secretarial Hub was a project organized by the SRC through the office of the Secretary in the first semester that brought together a host of well-meaning Ghanaians who have succeeded in their various fields of endeavour gather to speak to all Secretaries of the various clubs and associations on Campus at the SRC Union Building. One such notable speaker was Bernard Koku Avle, the host of the Citi Breakfast Show and also the Director of News Programming at Citi Fm.

The program has among other things broaden the horizon and scope of the participants as well as building their capacity as Secretaries for their respective clubs and or associations.
One very phenomenal project she undertook as Secretary was the introduction and production of certain important documents into braille for the use by Visually impaired students, a move that was considered as very positive by students particularly the association of Students with disabilities who saw that as a move that will keep them in the know on happenings in the SRC. Among other documents that were brailled was the Constitution of the SRC.

Leadership is also about bridging the gap between the privilege and the underprivileged, it was in this regard that I viewed this as a great effort to include all regardless of their disadvantage in the governance process and also make them feel a part of the larger university community.
Getting information to the people you serve will hugely contribute to your success or otherwise hence it can be understood the huge efforts Miss Aboraa Sika Marfo invested in this venture. One such policy under this bracket is the use of the Students mail to get pertinent information to the Students.

HOW SIKA EFFECTIVELY USED THE STUDENTS’ MAIL IN HER LINE OF DUTY

The UG mail is a mail service that is created for all students upon admission into the University of Ghana to provide a harmonious email provider for all – staff and students inclusive. She took advantage of this and sent very appreciable information to the Students. The first SRC secretary to use the service in disseminating information to students.
One student who had just applied to the Students Financial Aid Office for consideration to receive the SRC Yi Bi Boa scholarship scheme was full of praise for her as she tell me how she came by that information on the opening of the window for applications.
Another policy aimed at improving the quality dissemination of information was the Secretaries Connect, a policy implemented to make information dissemination to the Student populace an easy task by linking and Connecting all the Secretaries of the various clubs and associations on Campus so as to get information to them as well as pick their feedback on the SRC and it’s programs and policies.

Be that as it may and the short period she will occupy that office – for a year, and her tenure which is fast approaching the twilight, there are still certain very important initiatives that are, like the politicians will say, in the pipeline – the SRC website and others.
It’s a shame that an SRC as strong and popular like that of the University of Ghana does not have a functioning website which students can log on anytime and anywhere to access whatever information they require. In the past, the SRC website was hosted by the main university of Ghana website and a click on that interface redirects you to the Web page of the SRC.

But in recent past, that service has been down, pushing successive administrations to find a way of putting up a new website for the SRC. The Secretary to the current administration, Ms. Sika took it upon herself to lead the charge to get a new website for the SRC. An initiative that is far advanced and hopefully will come upstream in the coming days. The progress, we can toll you on authority that it is over 99.9% completed and will soon go on-stream.

Suffice to say that recently she and her colleague SRC executives launched the SRC toll-free lines. The introduction of a toll-free line that is aimed particularly at helping combating crime on campus and getting students the opportunity to call the Union Building, the security and the University Hospital. The toll free line will give access to students, lecturers as well as other people in the University to place a call to the security outfit of the institution to curtail every activity or activities that seek to destroy the serenity needed for academic work to go on successfully.

Residents in the University community can as well place a call to the University Hospital for ambulance service and other services as well as getting to the Union Building to get access to information and in a timely manner.
It Is in this regard that her performance is viewed as very satisfactory, how she has attained many in the spate of a semester and a few weeks in the succeeding semester is worth commending.
