KNUST wins Royal Banking & Finance Challenge

The Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been crowned the overall champions of the maiden edition of the Royal Banking & Finance Challenge (TRBFC), an inter-tertiary quiz competition.

The programme, organised by EDUFAIR Ghana Foundation and under the auspices of the Royal Bank together with other partners, seek to promote financial literacy amongst students in the country, commenced with 16 participating universities from all the Regions in the country.

KNUST emerged winners after beating the University of Ghana, University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and Methodist University College in the finals.

Ewura-Esi Enyimayew, CEO & Executive Director of EDUFAIR Ghana Foundation, commenting on the competition said: “It has been a whole week of intensive competition among 16 universities.  We started very well and I think that all the schools we registered have done very well. They need to be motivated and we want them to continue with this competition in the future.”

The competition, she explained, has given the organisers an idea of what the students actually need, adding that in the future, they will bring on board industry in order to give the students the needed training that they require to enter the job market.

“We are trying to groom human resources for industry, so we need them to come on board. After this year’s competition, we will engage the various stakeholders in our preparatory activities for the next edition, so we can together equip students to be suitable for the job market,” she said.

According to her, the event provides a platform to test students’ ability to know at what level they are, as far as their intellectual qualification can carry them.

Dr. Kwame Baah -Nuakoh, Senior Vice – President, Marketing, Research and Corporate Affairs at Royal Bank, who was also the quiz master said for one to become a good student he needs to invest into his education training.

He added that industry need to start investing in the human capital of the nation in order for them for them to be successful and productive in their fields of endeavor.

“Elsewhere, industry give money to academia and direct them as to the kind of resourceful individuals they are looking for to occupy certain areas within industry,” he said.

Grace Akipelu Ayoka, a 21-year-old, final year student in Banking & Finance at KNUST, who was one of the contestants, remarked that they have gained so much experience and that it will help build their confidence.
