The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has banned the posting of paper notices on campus with immediate effect. The new policy is in line with the university’s decision to operate a paperless system.
A number of measures have, therefore, been put in place to deter students from engaging in the old habit of putting up paper notices.
In accordance with the directive, the university authority has introduced special SIM cards to all students, indicating where notices from heads of departments and other relevant bodies could be accessed.
The Provost of the College of Science, Prof. (Mrs) Ibok Oduro, made this known at the first of eight sessions of this year’s matriculation ceremony of the KNUST in Kumasi last Tuesday.
A total of 16,904 students were admitted to the university this year, making it the highest in recent times. There are 3,000 more fresh students as compared to last year.
Out of the number, 2,303 were admitted to the College of Science, of which 803 are girls.
Increase in female intake
The population of female students of the college has also shot up by five per cent. The increase has come about because of the vice-chancellor’s initiative to lower cut-off points for female students who want to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics programmes in the university.
Prof. Oduro said the university was yearning to provide a unique environment that promoted free entrepreneurial thinking as a means of engendering innovation and development.
“The KNUST is a highly competitive institution because of the unique programmes on offer as a science and technology university, the environment and the various student support services that are available to our students,” she said.
