LEGON – The Presidents of the Junior Common Rooms of the Hilla Limann and Alexander Adum Kwapong Halls, Peter Keelson-Aikins and Divine Edem Kwadzodeh, are preparing to sue the Audit Board and the UGSRC President, Isaac Agyeman, following the SRC President’s illegal withdrawal of some GHS66,000.00 from the Student Fund without legislative approval from the SRC General Assembly.

This follows the refusal of the Audit Board to disallow the GHS 66,000.00 illegal expenditure and surcharge same on the spending officers of the SRC, ie. the President and the Treasurer.

It will be recalled that the SRC General Assembly at its first sitting of the semester, passed a resolution calling on the Audit Board to, within seven days, surcharge the SRC President and Treasurer for illegally withdrawing some GHS 66,000.00 from the SRC Account without legislative authorization. The Audit Board after the seven day period given it has however written to the SRC Speaker saying it will not surcharge the President and Treasurer.

This constitutional breach has therefore compelled the two JCR Presidents to file an application at the Judicial Board seeking orders compelling the Audit Board to do so. They are also reported to be planning an impeachment of the SRC President and Treasurer thereafter.

This is a developing story. LegonConnect will keep you updated as the story develops.
