Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso, the Vice-Chancellor, has charged the newly constituted Strategic Plan Implementation Oversight Committee (SPIOC) to come out with innovative ways of increasing revenue, reducing inefficiencies in the university and increasing enrolment to fifty thousand as projected, by the year 2025.
Professor Obiri Danso observed that due to inadequate government subvention, it has become imperative for the University to encourage public-private-partnerships; and to reduce the fees for certain courses in order to increase enrolment and revenue from fee- paying students.
The Vice-Chancellor made this call when he inaugurated the SPIOC. He admonished the Committee to regulate all sections of the University and to prompt everyone to adhere to rules and regulations, as well as guidelines and procedures for the attainment of the Corporate Strategic Plan 2016-2025.
Prof. Obiri Danso further urged the Committee to come up with ways to increase number of PhDs, especially in Departments with small number of staff with terminal degrees. He stated that they will be expected to collaborate with the International Programmes Office to leverage international linkages to increase the number of international students and build the capacity of staff.
Giving the terms of reference of the Committee, Andrews K. Boateng, the Registrar, explained that the Committee will institute mechanisms for monitoring and ensuring compliance of the Corporate Strategic Plan and develop timelines and track outcomes of the performance indicators of the Plan.
In addition, he indicated that, they will identify and address implementation challenges, if any, and review annually the progress of the implementation of the plan and submit reports to the Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Imoro Braimah, Chairman of the Committee, stated that the constitution of the Committee was historic as it was the first time management had deemed it fit to constitute a Committee to implement a strategic plan of the University. On behalf of the Committee he thanked management and pledged their commitment to ensure the plan’s implementation.
Members of the Committee are Professor Christian Agyare, Dr. Marian Nkansah, Dr. Ronald Adamptey, Prof. S. K. Oppong, Dr. Jerry John Kpornyo, Dr. Enya Besa Ameza-Xemalordzo and Dr. Eric Boakye-Gyasi. Others are Mrs. Linda Ofori, Mrs. Abigail D. Tawiah and Mr. Paul K. Addo.
