The University of Cape Coast has said that they cannot prevent their students from loving people of their choice.
Public Affairs Director of the UCC, Major Kofi Bentum (rtd.) was responding on Accra-based Joy FM to accusations made by the Chief of Amamoma (one of the communities bothering the school) that male students impregnate the young ladies of the town and later abandon them after they have completed school.

Bentum said “University students are also Ghanaians and they are like anybody else they can love and be loved. And that is not an issue that the University can carry”
The chief Nana Yatel III said he had resolved to get the male students who impregnate the girls of his town to marry them.
He said many of the fatherless children are currently roaming the streets to fend for themselves.
“One of the students impregnated a young lady in this town and escaped. When we found him and tried to get him to marry the girl, we realised that he was married. The best thing we could do was to get him to take care of the child,” Nana Yatel said.
But Bentum believes if it is a love affair between two consenting adults there is no cause for alarm.
“That is a love affair between two consenting adults if they are not adults then it’s a criminal case so we allow the law to take its course,” he said.
