BEIGE Foundation Supports KNUST

The BEIGE Foundation (TBF), a subsidiary of the Beige Capital, has through a partnership that seeks to benefit all six Colleges of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has offered to support the university in training, internship, leadership and career development programmes for students.

To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on the 25th of January, 2017 to promote industry-academia collaboration to provide guidance for the two parties to better collaborate in teaching, learning, research and other life skills development programmes.

Under the agreement, TBF would provide internship for third year students from the KNUST School of Business (KSB). Also TBF, through its Youth Excellence League (YEL), shall pay an amount of three hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (¢300000) to KNUST constituting prizes for selected students on the BEIGE Dean’s list.

Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso signed on behalf of the University and Ms. Anne-Marie Blacmore signed for TBF.

Giving a background to the MoU, Dr. Bernard Kofi Baiden of KSB, indicated that the TBF in October last year started discussions on rewarding excellent students which had culminated in the collaboration. Dr. Baiden said each student would receive a plaque and the sum of five thousand cedis (¢5000) out of the ¢300,000.

He gave the breakdown for the Colleges as follows: College of Humanities and Social Sciences 30 students, Art and Built Environment 10 students, Engineering 5 students, Science 5 students and Agriculture and Natural Resources 5 students.

Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso on behalf of the University expressed his gratitude to the TBF in supporting KNUST to execute its mandate. He was grateful that even when the Beige Capital was not present on campus, they had decided to come to the aid of the university and students who often had financial challenges in funding their education.

The Vice-Chancellor charged the Beige Capital to look beyond the parameters of needy but brilliant students and to also consider good and average students who may have genuine need of financial support.

Prof. Obiri-Danso pledged the University’s support to TBF and assured them that the partnership was the beginning of good things to come.

Ms. Anne-Marie Blacmore, the Programmes Officer, stated that TBF was the corporate social responsibility arm of the BEIGE Capital which had over the years supported institutions and the youth in diverse ways. She noted that the support given to KNUST was in line with her outfit’s initiative of assisting excellent students.
