The Basic Schools of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has marked the birth of Jesus Christ with a Christmas Carols Day. The festival of nine lessons and carols was themed: “Joy Over One”.
The celebration was marked with choreography, sketches, dance, songs, Bible readings and recitals in local languages and modern languages such as English, French, Italian and Chinese. The lessons were interspersed with carols which saw performances from the pupils, staff, supporting staff and retirees of the school.
In a Christmas message from Luke 2:9-12, Reverend Fr. Dr. Peter Addai Mensah stated that we appreciate the joyous nature of Christmas since it is a good celebration based on the word of God. He said it was the nature of God to restore sinful humanity to its original dignity and glory and that this work of restoration and redemption was through Jesus who came in human form which we celebrate every Christmas.
Giving a background to the festival of nine lessons and carols, he said it was introduced in 1918 by the Church of England and that it was made up Bible readings interspersed with music. Rev. Fr. Dr. Addai Mensah noted that Christmas was a religious and a spiritual event and must lead us to a deeper relationship with God.
He challenged all gathered to use the season of Christmas to give up all things done in the cover of darkness and be encouraged to live in readiness for the second coming of Christ. He encouraged all to reach out to others especially those who are neglected and rejected as Christmas was a love feast.
Irene Owusuaa Nkansah, the deputy head of the Basic Schools, stated that the celebration of Christmas was in the right direction as Christ brought hope to the whole world, though his birth was strange and unusual.
Mrs. Owusu Ankansah used the occasion to thank the benefactors of the school such as publishers of Foundation Builders, Golden English publishers, Petbeth Publications. Dakmaa 6th Enterprise, Olam Ghana Limited, Top Facts Company, Indomie, Ropa Drinking Water and all those who made donations for the celebration.
