Maame Serwaa is Gen. Sec. Elect, Ethel Donkor Treasurer Elect – Presidency Heads Into A Run Off

The election of yesterday [20th April] came of successfully and students of the University of Ghana has elected Janet Maame Serwaa Arkorful and Ethel Donkor as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Meanwhile the office of the president will go into a run off after the two leading candidates failed to get the 50%+1 mark.
Janet Maame Serwaa Arkorful Awotwe polled 2,188 representing 54.2% of the total valid votes cast as against her fierce contender who managed to garner 1,853 representing 45.8%. This makes Maame Serwaa Arkorful the General Secretary elect after a fierce competition from Fafa Esi Mensah who are both residents of the Legon Hall of the University.
For the Treasurer position Effah Emmanuel lost it out to Ethel Donkor who polled 2,075 votes with her contender Effah Emmanuel garnering 1,863 of the total votes cast.
But for the office of president which was contested by 5 students – Schandorf Ayirebi Acquah, Otting Awuah Daniel, Sylvester Amoako, Pascal Hayford Agbesi and Daakyehene Arhin Gerald is heading into a run off as the two leading candidates all failed to poll the Constitutional 50%+1 votes.
The two leading candidates Daniel Otting Awuah and Amoako Sylvester polled 1,963 representing 47.48% and 1,724 representing 41.73% respectively. The other 3 candidates combined managed a paltry 10.793%. However the Electoral Commission is yet to announce the date for the run off between Amoako Sylvester and Otting Awuah Daniel.
Of the almost 38,000 students expected to vote, a little over 5,000 votes were cast with a very glaring apathy.
