After last week’s [Tuesday, 11th April] UG SRC election was botched after it was fraught with many challenges, the election is set to begin this morning [9 am] to elect president and his vice as well as the Secretary and Treasurer to take over from the Esinam Afi Seade Led administration.
Meanwhile the modalities some expected would be incorporated in the election – the hybrid system, from indications is not going to be used as the electronic voting is going to be used again even though it met the displeasure of some aspirants last week leading to the postponement. And again, unlike last week where voters could vote at any polling station, this time around, voters are to vote at their respective halls of residence and in the case of Non Residents, vote at the Information Center.
LegonConnect’s checks from the various polling stations indicates that voting has not began as the software has not even been installed on the laptops.
The checks further reveals that, the apathy level is very high as students even seem oblivious of the fact that there is election today or seem disinterested in the whole process.
There are 5 Presidential candidates in the race and 2 each for the office of Secretary and Treasurer.
