The Palestinian ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Abd Alfattah Al Sattari, paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso on 20th October, 2016. The brief meeting took place in the University’s Council Chamber. The visit was to establish a cultural and educational exchange programme for Palestinian students into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
In his address, His Excellency Al Sattari commended the relationship that exists between Ghana and Palestine. He stated that the long history of support between the two countries always ensured that collaborations could always be made.
His Excellency explained that many Palestinian students were unable to get access to tertiary education due to political tensions between Palestine and Israel. He stated that in spite of the restrictions, Palestinian students were determined to seek higher education. His Excellency proposed a cultural and educational co-operation between KNUST and Palestine which would see some students from Palestinian Universities enroll in KNUST on scholarship programmes.
His Excellency further requested for a forum with students of KNUST on the importance of peace and tolerance. He conveyed greetings from the Palestinian Minister of Education and extended an official invitation to the Vice Chancellor to visit Palestine.
Professor Obiri-Danso, Vice Chancellor, in his welcome address stated that he was honored to receive the ambassador and expressed his admiration for former Palestinian head of state Yasser Arafat.
The Vice Chancellor stated that KNUST was open to students from different parts of the world. He indicated that KNUST was open to taking one or two brilliant Palestinian students if only they would not mind schooling in Ghana. The Vice Chancellor welcomed the ambassador’s request for a forum with students of KNUST on the importance of peace and tolerance.
The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and his team for their time and warm reception. The Pro-Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Students were present at the occasion.
