Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), under the Jospong Group of Companies, has donated assorted sanitation equipment valued at three (3) million Ghana cedis to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The sanitation equipment comprise two compaction trucks, twenty (20) tricycles, five thousand (5,000) bin linners, two hundred (200) litre bins and a plastic pallet recycling machine.
Presenting the items on behalf of ZLC, Mr. Kofi Sekyere Boateng, the Regional Manager of ZGL, said the donation was in addition to earlier assistance and support to the University community to ensure a clean and safe environment. Mr. Sekyere boateng indicated that this was not the first time ZGL had supported the university and that they had earlier donated items such as litter bins, skip trucks and containers in addition to constructing the Graduate School Complex.
He assured the university of his outfit’s Readiness to support research and innovation since KNUST had the capacity to put results from research into action for societal benefit.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, Vice-Chancellor, in receiving the items stated that environmental health was one of the key challenges facing most communities and it was his dream to see that all areas of environmental sanitation were catered for.
He said Dr. Joseph Agyepong Siaw had exceeded the request submitted by the university. Professor Obiri-Danso promised that the university would help spearhead the training of staff in the district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies in areas such as environmental, liquid and solid waste management. This, he believed, would build their capacity to help save the environment. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to ZGL to help in the maintenance of the equipment.
