The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has officially inducted Professor John Owusu Gyapong of the University of Ghana into office as its second Vice Chancellor.
The induction took place at the UHAS campus at Sokode-Lokoe, in Ho the Volta Region capital.
At the time of his appointment, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, a Professor of Epidemiology, was the serving his second term as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, in charge of Research Innovation and Development.
In his induction speech, Prof. Gyapong outlined his vision for the University, which includes facilitating a vibrant intellectual climate that stimulates innovation research and community engagement, promotion of multidisciplinary research in infectious diseases, chronic diseases, maternal and child health, policy and implementation research.
Other areas are promotion of integrated ICT-based teaching and learning through the development of e-learning platforms, stakeholder confidence building; and the continuation of implementation of plans to start new programmes in Pharmacy and Dentistry.
Professor John Owusu Gyapong takes over from the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Fred Newton Binka, who led the University from 2012 to 2016.
The University which was established by an act of Parliament (Act 828, 2011) as a public university with 450 students now boasts of over 5,000 students.
