Stampede At Valco Hall; Many Students Injured

A stampede broke out at a musical concert at the Valco hall in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Saturday night leaving many students injured.
Some of the injured students are currently receiving treatment at the UCC hospital while others decided to treat their injuries at their various hostels.
It is unclear what actually caused the stampede but some witnesses alleged that, there was scuffle between hip-life artist Yaa Pono’s entourage and some town folks who claim to be Shatta Wale loyalists in the audience during Yaa Pono’s performance of ‘Gbee Naabu’ – a diss song directed to Shatta Wale.
The scuffle then led to the crowd shoving against each other as people were in a hurry to leave the concert ground.

Background
The beef between Yaa Pono and Shatta Wale started when rapper Yaa Pono announced that Shatta Wale denied him of performing at a concert on February 18, 2017 at the Cape Coast stadium (just 5 Minutes’ drive from the Valco Hall).
That event was enormously attended and most bloggers in the Central region’s capital, Cape Coast pronounce that the dancehall king, Shatta Wale had broken the record of event attendance in Cape Coast.
The musical concert dubbed “Valco Artist Night” was part of the Valco hall week celebration which started on Wednesday, March 8. The show saw a number of hip-life artists such as Yaa Pono, Kwaw Kesse, Barima Sidney, Pope Skinny, Tutulapato amongst others.
We hope this misfortune does not take a toll on the other halls yet to celebrate their anniversary week. However, this “commotion“ will definitely have a negative impact on our rating of the hall week celebration..
