Bernard Opoku, a final-year candidate of Akyem Panning Junior High School in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, reportedly went blind immediately he opened the Integrated Science question paper to read through the instructions before attempting to write it at the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination.

His predicament was believed to be spiritual as his eyes were said to have turned yellowish with tears flowing down his cheeks, making it impossible for him to see what had been written in the paper.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that when Bernard Opoku was given the question paper and was about to read the instructions, started shouting while rubbing his eyes.

The incident temporarily halted the process at that particular time as the attention of the rest of the candidates was focused on him.

The teachers reportedly offered some prayers for him before the left eye opened but the right one was still closed.

The District Chief Executive of Atiwa, Kwabena Nkansah Pannin, who visited the school with the District Education Director, I.K. Okyere, ordered the teachers to send Bernard to the hospital after writing the paper.

The DCE congratulated the students on participating in the examination and urged them to tackle the task with courage and pass well so that they would enjoy the Free SHS policy in the next academic year.

He also advised them not to bring any unwanted materials to the examination hall and entreated them to continue to concentrate on their books till the final day of the examination.

Meanwhile, the Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour and the Municipal/District Chief Executives have toured the centres in their various areas to see for themselves what’s happening.
