The 50th annual delegates congress of the mother union of all educational institutions in Ghana – The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has commence in the Volta region specifically in St. Francis College of Education in Hohoe.
The theme for this year’s delegate’s congress of NUGS is “Building a Modernized Society with the influence of Quality Education; Challenges, Lessons and Prospects for the Ghanaian policy maker – the NUGS Perspective.”
Delegates from all member institutions are currently gathered in the Volta regions for the annual delegate’s congress which is expected to end with the election of a new executive body to take over from the Paa-Quecy led administration.
According to Mikdad Mohammed who is the chairman of the steering committee of the 50th annual delegates’ congress of NUGS, the venue for the event was initially in contention with some of the stakeholders of the union preferring Accra to the current venue.
According to him, the matter was finally put to rest with the intervention of the executive committee and the judicial committee of the union who finally ruled for the congress to be held in its current grounds – Hohoe.
Four aspirants are contesting for the presidential position of NUGS (Frank Amoakohene of the UG Medical School, Luqman Abubakar from UDS, Julian Cobbina from GIMPA, and Israel Appiah from UG City Campus). The other portfolios includes the General Secretary’s position, Coordinating Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Controller, Education and Democratization Secretary and Press and Information Secretary.
The election is expected to be held on Saturday the 8th of October 2016.
