The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has a new Board with effect from April 2017 to July 31, 2019. Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, Vice-Chancellor, reconstituted the Board at the Council Chamber. The Board will be chaired by the Director of the Institute.
Andrews K. Boateng, the Registrar, outlined the responsibilities of the Board by indicating that, it is expected to provide strategic direction for the Institute and ensure oversight responsibility for policy implementation. In addition, it will make recommendations to the Academic Board on matters pertaining to access, relevance and competitiveness of academic programmes as stated in the terms of preference.
He added that the Board will advise Management and the Development Committee on infrastructural projects to be undertaken by the Institute among others.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso advised the Board to operate within the prescribed mandate without fear or favour and stay focused in taking and implementing decisions. He also reminded the Board that the Institute was part of the traditional Colleges of the university and should not side-line them in planning, teaching and other academic issues.
He added that it is in the light of this that all Colleges has representation on the Board and challenged them to utilize the revenue generated judiciously and to improve on the service delivery, quality and standards.
Members of the Board are Professor Charles Antwi Boasiako, Dr. Mrs. F. Asiedu Appiah, Prof. K. O. Boateng, Dr. J.A. Dogbe and Dr. Patrick Osei. Others are Dr. Anto Panin Berko, Dr. M. G. Addo, Mr. Kwadwo Afriyie and Mr. Ebenezer T. Otieku.
