Former First lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has dismissed reports suggesting that her National Democratic Party (NDP) intends suing the Electoral Commission for possible elimination in the 2016 polls

Media reports this week indicated that the EC plans to stop political parties who have no offices in two-thirds of the various districts from participating in this year’s general polls.

News of the electoral body’s decision did not go down well with some of these “smaller parties”, including the NDP.

Mrs. Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDP, is reported to have vowed to haul the EC to court over the issue.

But speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an exclusive interview on PeaceFM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, the former first lady denied the comments attributed.

“I have never threatened to lead any presidential aspirant of any smaller party to sue the EC at court over its decision to stop parties who have no offices in two-thirds of the various districts available,” she said.

She, however, pointed out that the EC should not take decisions that would undermine the smaller parties from expressing their views in its meetings because some members of the smaller parties can suggest good ideas which would be of great interest and relevant to the EC.

Commenting on her daughter’s desire to go to Parliament on the ticket of the NDC, Mrs. Rawlings said her support for her daughter to win the Klottey-Korley parliamentary seat is unquestionable.

The leadership of the NDP though is yet to decide whether to field a candidate to contest Zanetor for the Klottey-Korle seat.

Regardless of that, she stressed that her support for Zanetor is indubitable, but is only worried about how her daughter is being treated by some NDC stalwarts, who she claimed, are not even abreast with the Genesis of the party.
