It is from the deepest part of my soul that I dove out my heart to victims of the June 3 twin Disaster. This disaster which has caused a lot of wreckage and havoc exactly a year today is something that must never happen again in the history of this country.
This disaster is a very troubling incidence that I do not want to recount it to bring up images in the minds of victims. Before I go on further, let me send my sincere condolences to families who lost dear men and women to this disaster.
As we cannot reverse this situation, we can only resolve and strive that it does not happen again. We can only put measures and strategies in place that this plaque is drowned forever in this noble country of ours.
It is imperative that both government and citizens strive to do the right things always. For government, it is important that the laws of this country are applied to the latter. Laws on inspection of sensitive installations like gas, fuel and the like are seriously implemented. It is also needful that government provides, widen and maintain the drainage systems of this country especially places prone to flood.
City authorities must also be on the alert. The negligence and sheer laziness in the city authorities must be dealt with once and for all. The renewal of mind and the realization that our work is for the betterment of the country is what must be instilled in our civil servants and political figures.
On the part of citizens, it is our duty and civic responsibility to obey laws meant for our safety and security. Let us start to do the right things and to do them right; we have to stop dumping refuse anywhere and put them at the right places, we have to stop choking the drainages, and stop building on water ways. Let us stop sand mining at unauthorised places, and let us provide drainages in our homes and workplaces.
On gas and fuel, it is our utmost duty that we inspect regularly and abide by all safety measures for our good and the good of all society.
I am very certain that when we abide by all laws and orders, and safety measures of this country, our safety would be secured.
