COMMISSIONED (SENIOR OFFICERS) ENLISTMENT INTO THE GHANA PRISONS SERVICE 2016
The Ghana Prisons Service invites discipline, hardworking and goal oriented graduate applicants in specified areas from suitably qualified Ghanaians who are interested in public safety through safe custody, welfare, reformation and reintegration of prisoners into the society for enlistment into the Service.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
All candidates are to satisfy the following requirements:
(1) GENERAL ELEGIBILTY/REQUIREMENT
▪ Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
▪ Must possess a first Degree not below a Second Class Lower from an accredited university, and the relevant professional qualification where it has been specified.
▪ Must have completed his/her National Service.
▪ Must be computer Literate.
▪ Must be of a minimum age of 21 and not more than 35 years by 31st December, 2017.
▪ Must be physically and medically fit by the Prisons Service standards.
▪ Must be of good character, have ability to work under pressure and difficult environment
▪ Must not be bonded.
▪ Must have a minimum height of 1.67metres (5ft 6inches) for Males and 1.57 metres (5ft 2inches) for Female.
(2) GENERAL DUTIES
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a minimum of first degree (Second Class Lower) in any of the following areas. Any additional qualification will be an added advantage.
(a) Social Work
(b) Human Resource
(c) M.A. in Clinical Psychology
(d) Social/ Humanities
(4) EDUCATION
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have
(a) B.ED (Basic or Early Childhood Development)
(b) B.ED (Guidance and Counselling)
(3) TECHNICAL OFFICERS
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have
(a) BSc Land Economy
(b) Building Technology
i. BSc. Quantity Surveying and Construction Technology
ii. BSc. Construction Technology and Management
(c) BSc Geomatic/ Geodetic Engineering
(d) BSc Civil Engineering
(e) BSc Mechanical Engineering
Previous working experience will be an added advantage
4. AUDIT
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have
(a) BSc Business Administration (Accounting Option)
(b) Part 2 of ICA (Ghana)/ ACCA
Professional qualification will be an Added advantage.
5. PUBLIC AFFAIRS
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least a Second Class lower:
(a) BA Communication Studies/ Public Relations from an accredited University.
(b) A first degree in any discipline and a Diploma in Communication Studies/ Public Relations from an accredited University.
(c) Possess a flair for publication/ write-ups.
(d) A minimum of 2 years working experience in a reputable print media will be added advantage.
6. NURSING
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least a Second Class lower in the following from an accredited University:
(a) BSc Nursing
(b) License with the Nursing and Midwives Council of Ghana
(c) Previous working experience will be an added advantage
7. LEGAL OFFICERS
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must meet the following:
(a) Have a minimum degree of LLB ( Professional Law Course)
(b) Have 2 years professional working practice
8. AGRICULTURE
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must meet the following:
(a) BSc in Agriculture ( Crops or Animals )
(b) Have 2 years professional working practice
9. RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must meet the following:
(a) At least a Second Class lower from a recognized University
(b) An ordained minister or chaplain of a Christian denomination approved by the Ghana Catholic Secretariat, the Christian Council of Ghana, the, Pentecostal Council of Ghana or other recognized Christian Bodies
(c) An Ordained Imam from a recognized Islamic body
10. MODE OF APPLICATION

(c) Give your full official name (Applicant) at the point of purchase.
(d) Use your Serial Number [SN] and Pin Code [PIN] to access the application form online at the website address: www.joinghprisons.com.gh. (The SN and PIN can be used to print a summary of your application online)
(e) Keep your SN and PIN for all stages of the enlistment process.
(f) The online application form is accessible only by the SN and PIN.
(g) Carefully follow instructions before you apply.
(h) ALL correspondents with applicants will be done through e-mail and text messages only.
(i) Only Short-listed Applicants will be invited for further stages of the enlistment exercise.
(j) Do NOT submit more than one [1] application online otherwise you will be disqualified.
11. STAGES OF THE ENLISTMENT PROCESS
(a) Only short listed applicants will be notified through their email /text messages to attend the next stage
(b) This will be followed by Screening and examination of relevant and personal certificates, Aptitude Test and Body Screening.
(c) Candidates who successful pass (b) will be invited to attend an interview
(d) Candidates who excel at the interview will go through Medical Examination
(e) Successful candidates in (d) above will go through a b criminal background check and vetting of certificates.
(f) The final stage of the process is invitation to commence Nine/9 months Officer- Cadet Training including Three/n month’s practical attachment at a Prison establishment.
(g) Candidates who successful complete the Officer- Cadet-Training will be commissioned as Senior Prison Officers with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons.
