President of the Ghana Association of Writers, Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng has expressed worry over how the country is losing its identity.
The Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) said Ghanaians must appreciate works of history by Ghanaian writers.
Speaking at the 2016 Ghana Association of Writers congress Saturday, May 28, Mr Gyan-Apenteng said the trend could affect the country in the not too distant future.
“The rate at which ignorance in our country is spreading and becoming fashionable is alarming. We are losing our language, our moral providence, our cultural identity and integrity, all because we are losing our history”, he stated.
“One reason we are losing our history is because unlike banking, human resource management, ICT or buying and selling rice, history does not pay; not immediately.
“In this country, luckily we have three of the 20th Century’s foremost Pan-Africanists buried here. We have Kwame Nkrumah, George Padmore and W.E.B Du Bois. One of them buried in some country will be an eternal asset. We have three within walking distance…all of that will work if only we appreciate what our writers have put down over the years,” Mr Gyan Apenten added.
