The impending University of Ghana student elections is yet to bring in its wake a strong gale of fruitless propaganda instigated to dirty opponents during the race for the SRC. But between now and the time the student office aspirants begin to unravel their shrewd and Darwinian tendencies, a few controversies have arisen in the interim.
It is safe to say that the ‘PACs’ of a number of office aspirants seek to sensationalize the UG Whatsapp populace to rally the electorates for them and against others. Two prominent PACs are the Student Updater and its rival, the Election Barometer who have varying dispositions.
By capitalizing on their power of free speech, these two are releasing election ratings which are not pegged on any considerable research polls and are claiming some candidates are in a comfortable lead cruising on to victory while dragging others through the mud and tagging them the obvious vanquished. But I think we have all heard that assertion before and know exactly where their aspirants are headed.
It is as I will put it; vain attempts at fuelling propaganda. These ratings are bursting with unpardonable inconsistencies, grossly skewed facts and misplaced bios of candidates; from their program of study to their slogans. More so, the mobile contact information the Student Updater left behind hasn’t been activated and the Election Barometer was only brave enough to leave an email; a testament of his anonymity.
Every electorate then is informed, not a single one of these whatsapp posts are credible and the faces behind them don’t have a trustworthy bone in their bodies. It is apparent then that The Student Updater and the Election Barometer most certainly do not echo the forthcoming election results in the least and must be considered utterly plain bunkum.
