The Council of Convocation has donated one hundred and three thousand, nine hundred cedis (¢103,900) to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Foundation.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of Convocation, Professor Rexford Assasie Oppong, Chairman of Council of Convocation, stated that the donation was in response to a call by the Vice-Chancellor to all stakeholders to help the university. Professor Assasie Oppong noted that all members of the Council decided to contribute one hundred Ghana cedis (¢100) each in the month of October towards the Foundation.
Receiving the donation, the Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Kwame Saarah-Mensah expressed Council’s appreciation for the kind gesture. He stated that as members of Convocation and members of the University, it was a prudent decision they took to contribute towards the development of the institution. Dr. Saarah-Mensah stated that the foundation was set up in view of the fact that state funding alone was inadequate.
The KNUST Foundation was launched on 21st May, 2016 as a mechanism to raise funds from all its stakeholders to help the University to continue to deliver on its mandate and remain relevant in the face of changing trends in Science and Technology education.
The KNUST Foundation also became necessary because the traditionally known sources of funding tertiary education have been diminishing and gradually becoming unreliable and unsustainable.
