A concrete slab of a house in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis has caved in, resulting in the death of a young man at the European Hospital.
The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, when the young man, identified as Wisdom Quarshie, was asleep, together with his mother, Dora Mensah, and a younger sibling, both of whom sustained injury but were treated and discharged from the hospital.
The Takoradi District Commander of Police, Superintendent Mr. Peter Ofori Donkor, who briefed the Daily Graphic on the incident, indicated that a post-mortem had since been conducted on the deceased and the body released to the family for burial.
He explained that even though the incident happened on June 6, 2016, no one reported it to the police until three days later when a formal report was made.

Asked whether the family had a case to answer for refusing to report the incident promptly to the police, Mr. Donkor answered in the negative, saying that they would have been held liable if they had failed to report it, but once they finally reported it, there was no trouble.
At New Takoradi, Dora Mensah, a trader, told the Daily Graphic that she and her three children — Gloria Quarshie, 21; Ebenezer Kumah, 15, and Wisdom — were asleep when she heard a big bang. She woke up suddenly, only to see Wisdom writhing in pain.
She explained that Wisdom had been sleeping with his elder brother in the neighbourhood of Poasi, where they lived, but he came around to spend the night with them on Monday, June 6 when the incident occurred.
She said together with some sympathisers who came out, she looked for a taxi to send him to the European Hospital, where he was quickly given one set of infusion, but his condition got worse and he passed on about 1 a.m.
According to Dora, Wisdom was buried last Saturday.
