Introduction
The Department of Tourism offers various courses to prepare students to work in middle level management positions in tourism, hospitality and other industries in the country.
Vision
The vision of the Department is to produce graduates who will be able to supervise or manage jobs in the tourism and hospitality industry or establish their own businesses in order to reduce unemployment in the country.
Objectives
The objectives of the Department are to:
- apply competency-based training in the field of Hospitality and Tourism in producing efficient, knowledgeable, skilled workers for the industry;
- create an integrated strategy on which to base the Development of Tourism Education and Training programme in the country;
- enhance the successful development of the Tourism industry in Ghana;
- fulfill the needs and expectations of the Tourism and Hospitality sector regarding the training of middle-level manpower; and,
- Enhance collaboration between the Polytechnic and industry, thereby helping to promote quality services delivery in the Tourism and Hospitality industry.
Graduates of the Department are qualified for self–employment or to be able to play significant roles in the management of Hospitality and Tourism Industry. They aspire to occupy higher positions in both government and private sector organisations, such as the Ministry of Tourism, Ghana Tourist Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, National Parks, Theme Parks, Tour and Travel Agencies, Information Centres, Convention Bureaus, Consultancies and Educational Institutions.
Staff
The Department has eleven (11) teaching staff, six (6) of whom are full-time lecturers and five (5) are servicing lecturers. In addition, the Department has seven (7) support and administrative staff. Details are provided in the tables below:

Future Plans
- Course outlines and syllabi are ready for the introduction of an 18-month B. Tech top-up degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management for the HND graduates, and a Four-year B Tech Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management in readiness for conversion of Polytechnics in the country into Technical Universities.
