History of the new West African Examination Council grading system.

The West African Examination Council did a revamping of the different grading systems for the different examinations that are done nationwide. They did this with an aim of improving the education grading systems. The main reasons for changing the examination was due to the demerits that the old grading systems brought with.

Some of the reasons include;

The old system made it almost impossible for the analysis of the grades that had been recorded every year. This means that it was impossible to gauge the grades and it made it impossible to know if there was improvement or not.

The grades were not reflecting the standards of education. It was hard to know if the teaching improved or deteriorated.

Below is a guide on the new and old grading system for the various WAEC examinations.WAEC grading system for BECE

This is a school leaving and also a determinative examination. It determines the senior high school that one will be posted.

The grading of the BECE is based on a nine(9)-scale grading system. The system was designed to help correct the old grading system by encompassing three key elements.
