Hundreds of physically challenged Ghanaians will occupy the Ministries of Education and Finance over unpaid allowances on Wednesday 13th July.
The demonstration to be held by Ghana union of disabled worker and Ghana federation of the disabled organization is intended to put pressure on the government to pay their allowances which have been in arrears for more than three years.
Speaking to Citi News, Interim chairman for the Ghana union of disabled workers, Alex Hodor says they will not rescind their decision till their monies are paid.
“Government needs to pay us some allowances, which are commuting and guide allowance. For the commuting allowance, some of our members are not enjoying it at all and since 2013, we’ve been battling it up till now.”
He lamented that several assurances have proved futile hence their resolve to occupy the two ministries to get the government to fast track the payments.
“They give us assurances yet we are in June 2016. We only want this thing to implement in a very smooth way so that we will not disturb government of any arrears. We will protest on July 13, 2016. We are bringing our wheelchairs and white canes to block the Ministry of Education and the Finance Ministry.
