None can counter my claim that University of Ghana will make the list of top 1o most religious environments in Ghana. Having doubts? Steal a glance at Sarbah field or mayhaps Afeefe. I suppose there hasn’t been a single moment in history where people were not found screaming out their voice boxes in the good name of receiving a visitation, beseeching God for most incomprehensible compassion. These fields have become symbols of the Christian faith on campus and perhaps receives as many visitors in an academic year than Atwea Mountains would have, over the past decade. Lets take a look at the awesome churches that are reinventing the crusades in their own little ways and turning the UG academic environment into grounds of spiritual combat.
5.GHAMSU; The Ghana Methodist Students Union will kill you with the melody of strong hymns and chants. But the best part is that you will die with a smile on your face and a longing to relive the experience. Venite, Te Deum are my personal favorites and I find Cantemus Canti rather imposing. GHAMSU has cast its nets several times and have widened in membership over the years. It is close to, if not the most populous church on campus.
4.LEGON INTERDENOMINATIONAL CHURCH; Whats most casually notable about this church is how their bus keeps deceiving me into thinking it’s the TF shuttle. And often times the gleam on my face is disappointed getting to know it’s the LIC bus rounding up a couple of its members. LIC is a delightfully humble church who have built themselves beautifully over times past. You may not hear much about this congregation but their church is increasing in numerical strength in the wake of every semester.
3.AGCM; The Melodious Missionaries are by far the most powerful choir group at UG and the Assemblies of God conceived it. AGCM is the organizer of the Azusa Impact 2016 in commemoration of the Azusa Street Revival, the stakeholders from whom the church begun. The AGCM is well commended for the daring exploits and tenacity of its choir; the brightest and most conspicuous of its wings.
2.CAMPUS CHRISTIAN FAMILY; Undoubtedly, one of the most influential interdenominational churches, CCF with over two decades of preaching the good news has birthed the opening of three giant branches, the rise of a powerful student choir and the boldness to be independent of a parent church. The thing that amazes me about the Campus Christian family is the tireless efforts they put in to make the church live up to its name as a family. With the great a many departments possessing different skillsets and whose functions complement each other, CCF is one of the most well run churches on campus.
- LIGHTHOUSE CHAPEL INTERNATIONAL; Lighthouse, what shall I juxtapose you with? You are as the smallest string that plays the sweetest tune. Possessing the rare quality of ubiquity, Lighthouse is that seemingly small and negligible student church that’s just everywhere on campus. What makes Lighthouse top the list of most awesome churches on campus, is their unconventional church culture that is exciting to say the least. Lighthouse is unique and what impresses me about this church is the dedication and bond that exists between members of the congregation. The church is a big nuclear family closely knitted by the threads of two ambitions; the first being to fulfill the great commission and second, to see Daddy’s church grow.
