UMaT Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering (FoE) consists of Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mathematics. The Faculty trains engineers who are capable of making a career in teaching, research, commerce and industry. The Faculty of Engineering is dynamic and progressive, using the state of the art laboratories and modern teaching methods in training student. The Faculty aims to become a centre of excellence within the framework of its institutional role.
The Faculty produces high quality research in the form of :
- Publications which advance knowledge in the Faculty’s disciplines.
- Creative works which advance knowledge
- Bachelors, Masters and Phd Graduates who have advanced skills and are able to apply knowledge in their discipline.
Academic & Administrative Staff
The Faculty has a committed and highly motivated academic and administrative staff. The Faculty has a very good expertise in Thermo fluid, Machine Design, Solid Body Engineering, Electrical Power system, Communication Systems, Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Financial Engineering.
Quality Assurance
Through the University Authority the Quality Assurance Unit enable the Faculty to review regularly the efficiency and effectiveness of its activities and extent to which it is achieving its approved objections. It also, where necessary, works with National Accreditation Board and Professional Societies to ensure that its activities are of the highest possible quality.
International and Regional Collaboration
The Faculty foster collaboration and cooperation with other higher educational institutions like Missouri University of Science and Technology, U.S.A., Montana University, U.S.A, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria and Kristo Asafo Technology Workshop at Otsreku in Ghana to strengthen its teaching and research programmes wherever possible.
Laboratories
Four new laboratories and two computer laboratories have been constructed and equipped for teaching and learning purposes. They are:
1. Electricity and Electronics Laboratory
This laboratory takes care of experiments on the fundamentals of electricity and electronics (DC and AC circuits, electromagnetism, motors and generators, AC-DC-AC conversion circuits); semi-conductor devices; AM, FM communications circuits; linear electronics (operational amplifiers); basic digital logic; feedback, tuned and power amplifiers; oscillators and filters.
2. Technical Preparation Laboratory
Technical Preparation Laboratory Work in this laboratory involves the basics of the following relevant areas: hydraulics and pneumatics; communications; CNC lathe and milling machines; process control; mechanics. Other works in the laboratory include bending and vacuum forming of plastics; solar energy; computerized storage; microprocessors and micro controller technology.
3. Process Control Laboratory
Process Control Laboratory This laboratory is centered on the monitoring of processes using temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level sensors/ transducers and load cells in conjunction with data acquisition card and a process control simulator.
4. Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Laboratory
Computer-Intergrated Manufacturing(CIM) Laboratory This CIM laboratory has to do with robots; machine tending, CNC milling and lathe machines stations; conveyor stop assemblies with pallet tracking systems; closed loop pallet conveyor with programmable logic controllers; automated storage and retrieval system; aluminum coating industrial process control; hydraulic assembly and pneumatic feeding stations.
