Sefako Makgatho 2018 Application, SMU has one method for applying – a hardcopy application.  This means that you need to download the application form below, complete it and then post it or hand it in by hand with the necessary documents.

No applications will be accepted via email or fax.

Step 3:  Attach all supporting documents.

Step 4: Apply for residence if you need student accommodation.

Please note: on page 5 of the application form, you will find an option to apply for residence.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB); Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiography (B Rad); Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS); Bachelor of Dental Therapy (BDT); Bachelor of Oral Hygiene (BoH); Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm); and Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSc Physio)

Friday, 27th July 2018 is the closing date to apply for the following courses:

Bachelor of Nursing Sciences and Art (B Cur); Bachelor of Advanced Nursing Science (BNSc), Bachelor of Science in Dietetics (BSc Diet), Bachelor of Speech Language, Pathology and Audiology (B SLP & A); Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (B Occ Ther); Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physiology, Psychology and Statistics

NB: Applications sent by fax or submitted after closing date will not be considered

SUBMIT A COPY OF THE NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE (NSC) FINAL EXAMINATION RESULTS AS SOON AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.

Application Procedure and Requirements

Application procedure and requirements for study visa

  • An application form obtainable from home affairs,
  • A valid passport (for a year or more),
  • Admission letter from the University,
  • A letter from the institution in support of your study visa (International office),
  • Bank statement – Copy of passport or I.D of parent or guardian responsible for the financial support and a supporting letter,
  • A study visa fee of R425-00,
  • Proof of medical aid cover confirming that you will be covered while in SA. Medical reports (including Radiology & Pathology).
  • A police clearance certificate from your country of origin,
  • Repatriation fee of R585-00,
  • Copy of yellow fever vaccination (If relevant),
  • If applicant is under 21 years old, there should be a letter of consent from parent or guardian.

If you have a study permit, remember to renew it 3 months before its expiration. If you neglect to do this, the State can impose heavy fines both on you and on the University. The process of getting a study permit can take 4-8 weeks to process; hence, it is advisable to make study visa applications as soon as possible.
