The Department of Paediatrics runs full-scale undergraduate academic and clinical training in general paediatrics for undergraduate students of the School of Medical Sciences University of Cape Coast. The Department is also involved in the training of second year House Officers at the instance of the Ghana Medical and Dental Council working in the Central Regional Hospital. All academic members of staff of the Department are specialist paediatricians who are actively involved in the provision specialist paediatrics services to major health facilities run by the Ghana Health Service especially the Central Regional Hospital which serves as the key training facility for our undergraduate medical students.
The department runs sub – specialty clinics in Neurology, Neonatology, Haematology, Respiratory, Cardiology and Infections. Within the Central Regional Hospital, the department is involved in the department specialized treatment and training units for severe acute malnutrition and neonatal intensive care (integrating Kangaroo mother care).
