The Department of Fashion Design and Textile Studies runs Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fashion Design and Textile Studies with specialization in Clothing and Textile Production.
It is the vision of the Department to turn out students who will be able to create, design and produce any fashion and textile related articles in the industry. The programme equips students with the necessary skills to be self-employed in garment production, textile designing and production, interior and exterior decoration.

  • Introduction of Bachelor of Technology top-up for HND Fashion and Textile Design Studies graduates.
  • Introduction of HND in Cosmetology
  • The department also plans to run short courses for dressmakers and tailors to help them learn the current trends in fashion designing.
  • Short courses in Pattern-Making, Garment Production, and Nail Technician  and Beauty Care

 
CAREER PROSPECTS
Several job opportunities are available to graduates of the Fashion Design & Textiles Studies programme.  Below are some of the opportunities identified.

  1.  Self employment as small scale industry practitioners who can undertake the following jobs:
  • Garment production
  • Art and craft work
  • Interior and exterior decoration
  • Fashion forecaster
  1. Teaching
  2. Employment with textile manufacturing industries
  3. Employment as sales personnel in fashion shops and boutiques
  4. Employment as fashion coordinators and promoters of fashion and textiles designing
  5. Production of textile articles such as tie and dye, batik and other coloured fabrics
