History & Facts

Bole Community Health Nurses Training School is one of the newly established health training schools in Ghana and started admitting students in September, 2012. The school is the second Community Health Nurses’ Training School to be established in the Northern region. It is located in Bole District of Northern Region.
Bole District has Bole as its capital and lies between latitude 8’10 5 and 09’ and longitude 1.50 E and 2.45 W. It is located at the extreme western part of the Northern Region of Ghana. The District is bounded to the North by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, to the West by the Republic of Cote Divoire with the Black Volta River being the boundary between the two neighbouring countries, to the East by the West Gonja District, to the south by the Wenchi and Kintampo North Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The school started with its administrative work at the Bole District Health Directorate and move to its current location (school premises) on September 28, 2012.
Currently, it has a student population of 64 comprising 42 females and 22 males.
The establishment of this school is meant to train Community Health Nurses to augment the work of public Health Nurses whose role is to promote health and prevent diseases in our communities.

To train proficient health service providers for the promotion of health, prevention of diseases and rehabilitative activities.
Mission
To provide training, bring about discipline, high moral and professional values to trainees.
Goal
Sustain discipline and improve academic performance for effective health service delivery.
Objectives
Develop an action plan every semester and follow it appropriately.
Supervise students in the field during every vacation practicum.
Equip library and skills laboratory with the necessary books and equipment at the beginning of every academic year.
Institute disciplinary committees to sit and take disciplinary actions according to the rules and regulations of the training institutions.
Attain 100% in licensing exams.
Goal of the Programme (Community Health Nursing)
The programme is designed to train a multipurpose health worker with adequate knowledge, attitudes and skills to be able to function effectively as a member of the Sub-District Health Team (SDHT) in the preventive, supportive and curative health care at the community level.
Objectives of the Programme
By the end of the programme, the Community Health Nurse will Collect and analyze routine data on health problems in the community
Work with other members of the SDHT and the community to plan, implement and monitor health activities at the community level.
Assess the physical and mental health needs of individuals, diagnose and treat specified disease and make appropriate referrals.
Plan and organize clinics
Provide health education
Carry out home visits
Provide school health services
Prevent and control infectious diseases
Conduct emergency deliveries
Provide first aid in emergencies
Provide antenatal and post delivery care
Provide neonatal care
Assist in training and supervision of TBAs
Motivate in the community to accept appropriate Family Planning methods and services
Provide supportive care of the aged and persons with disabilities

Admissions are mostly opened during the first quarter of the year.
You first buy the forms at the school premises or a post office near you. Fill and the submit the forms. You will be called and interviewed. If you pass the interview, then you will be admitted

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATIONS INTO HEALTH TRAINING INSTITUTIONS
MINISTRY OF HEALTH
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for entry into any of the Health Training Institutions in Ghana.
Applicants must:
1. Purchase application code for admission forms at a price of GH¢ 60.00 from the school or any other Health Training Institution.
2. Take the application code purchased to the school’s computer laboratory or other Health Training Institution and complete the online application form
3. Get two self-addressed FedEx envelops from any of the health training institutions at a cost of GH¢15.00
4. Put the completed application form in the FedEx envelop and give it to the IT instructor for pickup by FedEx
5. Candidates can subscribe to receive SMS on the status of their admission at a cost of GH¢2.00

A cutoff aggregate score of Forty Eight (48) or better in six subjects, comprising 3 core and 3 elective for WASSCE OR A cutoff aggregate score of Thirty (30) or better in six subjects, comprising 3 core and 3 elective for SSSCE
Core Subjects and Minimum Grades AT LEAST credits(A1-E8) in three core subjects
i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science. OR
AT LEAST Passes (A-E) in three core subjects
i.e English, Mathematics and Integrated Science.

An aggregate score of Twenty Four (24) or better in six subjects, comprising 3 core and 3 elective for SSSCE
Core Subjects and Minimum Grades Credits (A1 – C6) in three Core Subjects i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science. OR
Credits (A– D) in three Core Subjects i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science.
Elective Subjects and Minimum Grades Credits (A1 – C6) in three Elective Subjects. OR
Credits (A – D) in three Electives Subjects.
CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF FORMS IS 30TH APRIL
You will be prosecuted for any forged attachment or false declaration
Applicants (excluding serving officers) can apply using SSSCE OR WASSCE AND NOT A COMBINATION OF BOTH.
