How to Verify AFDA’S Registration and Accreditation Status

AFDA is the trading name for The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance.

AFDA is a Private Higher Education Institution owned by Stadio Holdings, which offers Higher Certificate and Degree programmes that are registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Our programmes are accredited and we participate productively in the ongoing reaccreditation and quality assurance processes of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) to ensure the quality of our programmes. The DHET certificate number for AFDA is 2001/HE07/012.

The registration of AFDA’s programmes can be verified by typing in SAQA on your web browser and following these steps: Click on “Search Qualifications” Type the appropriate ID number in the sub field named “Qualification ID”.  Do not enter any other fields and press “Go”.  The programme details will appear. A description of the programme will appear if you click on the programme name. The Qualification ID’s of AFDA’s  programmes are listed on the course pages for each qualification.

AFDA’s registration as a Private Higher Education Institution (PHEI) at the Department of Higher Education and Training can be verified
OR:
Google “DHET register of PHEIS” which is the acronym for The Department of Higher Education’s Register of Private Higher Education Institutions

In the update of July 2021, AFDA’s details are listed as entry no. 89 on page 107.

The details of a person claiming to have graduated from AFDA can be verified by phoning the Student Affairs Office at the campus in question. The person must provide a report or academic transcript on which the student number and year of graduation will appear.

AFDA is a full member of CILECT (www.cilect.org), an international association of Film and Television schools. Over 170 of the top institutions globally are full members. This membership allows AFDA to gain access to a global network of the creative economy through education, conferences, partnerships and exchanges.

Over and above CILECT, applicants may refer to UK NARIC which is a United Kingdom based agency responsible for giving advice and guidance on the comparable level of overseas qualifications. NARIC offers a number of different services that help institutions and individuals understand the level of qualification achieved overseas and if the provider of qualifications are legitimate. AFDA as such is listed on their database of accredited providers since AFDA holds accreditation through The South African Qualifications Authority.
