About Neumann College Of Nursing
Neumann College of Nursing was established after several thoughts and considerations just as emergence of any institution.
However, the idea of this health institute was conceived when the impact of Neumann International Schools in Kumasi and Obuasi had been felt positively.
Neumann International School has two branches; Atwima-Abuakwa near Kumasi and Obuasi-Adansi. The school was originally established in the year 1988 at Obuasi which then gave birth to the School at Atwima-Abuakwa near Kumasi in 1990 / 1991 academic year.
It must however, be noted that these Schools were originally created on humanitarian and charity purposes to care for the orphans, street, needy and underprivileged children. However, when the school began to produce brilliant individuals, financially able parents in the communities where the schools operated began to request for admissions for their children.
Having chalked a number of successes in the academic calendar as well as extracurricular activities, the school gained recognition and popularity in Ghanaian education.
In January 2010, during the visit of Mr. John and Mrs. Gabi Neumann, the patrons of the Neumann International Schools who came from Australia together with Rev. Dr. John Osei Appiah, Founder and President of the Neumann International School identified some pertinent needs in Ghana.
These needs were as follows;
1. The unemployment situation with the Ghanaian youth that was urging some youth into armed robbery, drug addiction, prostitution, incarceration, etc.
- Inadequate Healthcare due to lack of nursing service personnel, causing the death of innocent lives in rural, remote and neglected urban areas of Ghana.
The unemployment situation and the dying of innocent lives worried Mr. John and Mrs. Gabi Neumann so much that they promised to fund the building of a Healthcare and Nursing Training Institute on charity to empower the unemployed youth to become useful in the society and also help solve the health and nursing care problems in the country.
Mr. John and Gabi Neumann with Rev. Dr. John Osei Appaih still believe in the philosophy that ”If you give a fish to a hungry man, you feed him for a day, but if you teach him to fish, you feed him all his life”
The college officially commenced its REMEDIAL and PRE-REQUISITE or PRE-NURSING PROGRAMMES (of ENGLISH, MATHS, SCIENCE, SOCIAL SCIENCE AND SOME FEW OTHERS) on OCTOBER 28th 2013/14 academic year with six(6) Students and now has over hundred (100) Students.
