SHORT COURSE IN NORMS AND STANDARDS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (76949)

 

Purpose

This SLP is intended for those individuals who want to enter the field of Education, Training and Development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). Many such individuals are already practicing within the field of ECD, and some would be teachers in the foundation phase, but lack knowledge of the norms and standards required for Early Childhood teaching and learning. This course will enable practitioners and students to adhere to the Norms and Standards as required in Early Childhood Education. In particular, students will be able to understand;
 Legislative framework governing Early Childhood Education (ECE)
 Registration of ECE centres
 Funding options for ECE centres
 Health and Safety regulations in ECE centres
 Stakeholder management
 Holistic development of children
 
 

Target group

The SLP will accommodate individuals interested in and involved in early childhood development, as well as care givers and foundation phase teachers

Tuition method

Blended Mode.
 
 

Kind of assessment

Formative assessment. Students must complete and pass a compulsory assignment in the module. The assignment will involve workplace-based exercises and self-assessment.
The assignment will contribute 20% to the final mark of the module.
Summative assessment. Students must submit and pass a portfolio comprising of practice oriented activities which will assess competence in all unit standards. A sub minimum of 40% is required to pass the portfolio assessment below which the formative assessment will not count.
