UENR Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is one of the eight (8) departments in the School of Engineering. The department was established in 2013 at the onset of the 2013/2014 academic year with the aim of producing highly qualified engineers to address the challenging industrial needs, specifically, of the nation and Africa as a whole. The department seeks to train engineers who are capable of overcoming the challenges of manufacturing sector in Ghana which has gone a long way to negatively affect the nation’s economy.
Currently, the department offers two undergraduate programmes that provide comprehensive view into engineering design of mechanical and agricultural devices. The Bachelor of Science programme in Mechanical Engineering is well-engineered to train students in the following areas of mechanical engineering: Applied Mechanics, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Automobile Engineering, and Thermofluids and Energy Systems Engineering. The Bachelor of Science programme in Agricultural Engineering emphasizes on training the students in the broad areas of soil and water engineering, postharvest technology, farm power and machinery, and farm structures and environmental control. The undergraduate programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering have a strong hands-on laboratory component.
As part of the requirements for the fulfilment of the BSc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering, all undergraduate students in the department participate in vacation training between the academic study semesters. This provides the students with practical experience that complements and strengthens the in-class learning, thereby, providing the students with a solid and well-informed education.
In the not too distant future, the department will commence graduate programmes in Agricultural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering as well as a BSc. Mechanical Engineering top-up programme for HND holders.
VISION STATEMENT
